Dr. Ninia performs a detailed ultrasound scan to map the path of the targeted vein and identifies any connecting vessels that may need treatment. He administers local anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
Minimally Invasive Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins on Long Island
Bulging varicose veins can affect your appearance, confidence, comfort, and quality of life. These veins won’t get better on their own, but the thought of traditional vein stripping surgery — and its associated discomfort and recovery time — keeps many patients from seeking treatment.
Endolaser vein therapy has revolutionized how Dr. Jerry Ninia treats varicose veins at the Varicose Vein Center. This advanced procedure uses laser energy to seal incompetent veins, often replacing the need for invasive surgical techniques. Most insurance plans cover the treatment when medically necessary, and patients can return to their normal activities immediately.
Endolaser vein therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that closes varicose veins from the inside.
Dr. Ninia guides a thin laser fiber into the diseased vein through a small puncture entry point. The laser generates heat that causes the vein walls to collapse and seal shut. This stops the backward flow of blood that creates varicose veins.
Endolaser vein therapy can treat:
When Dr. Ninia activates the laser fiber inside your vein, it generates a safe amount of heat that damages the vein’s inner lining (endothelium). The heat triggers an immediate inflammatory response that seals the vein shut.
Once it is sealed, blood can no longer flow through the treated vein, and your body reroutes circulation through nearby healthy veins. Your body breaks down and absorbs the closed vein tissue over the following weeks.
Endolaser vein therapy is performed in our Long Island vein clinic, often in under an hour. You will be awake during the procedure and able to return home shortly after.
Dr. Ninia performs a detailed ultrasound scan to map the path of the targeted vein and identifies any connecting vessels that may need treatment. He administers local anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
Using ultrasound guidance, Dr. Ninia inserts a thin catheter through a puncture and advances it to the diseased vein. He then threads the laser fiber through the catheter until it is in the treatment position.
With everything in place, Dr. Ninia activates the laser and slowly withdraws it along the length of the vein. Patients often report feeling warmth but no pain during this phase.
Dr. Ninia removes the laser fiber and seals the entry point with adhesive or a minor stitch. We then apply a compression stocking to your treated leg to support the healing process and promote optimal recovery.
You will rest briefly in our recovery area before taking a mandatory walk around our office to encourage blood flow. Keep the compression stocking on continuously for 24 hours. You may resume normal activities with a few exceptions and suggestions for the next two weeks.
It is normal to experience bruising, aching, redness, or swelling for two to three weeks post-treatment. This should start to subside after two weeks. Continue to wear your compression stocking in accordance with Dr. Ninia’s instructions.
You will have a follow-up appointment in approximately one week. At that time, Dr. Ninia will perform an ultrasound to determine the success of the procedure.
Research demonstrates exceptional success rates for endolaser therapy. Multiple studies show success rates of over 95%, often with a single laser treatment. It is an excellent replacement for old-fashioned vein stripping, and patient satisfaction with the procedure is high.
This method has also been shown to be effective in some cases of restless leg syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and pigmented skin around the ankle areas.
Endolaser vein therapy is an excellent option for most patients with varicose veins, particularly when conservative treatments haven’t provided adequate relief. You may be an ideal candidate if:

Most insurance plans cover endolaser therapy when it’s medically necessary. If you have symptoms and have tried compression stockings for three months, we can usually get approval. My staff handles the authorization process and will let you know your coverage before we schedule anything.
Both work well, but I use them for different situations. Laser is often my choice for large, straight saphenous veins. VenaSeal is great for patients who have more tortuous veins. Sometimes I use both in the same patient for different veins.
Absolutely. The complication rates are much lower than traditional vein stripping. There’s less risk of infection, bleeding, nerve damage, scarring, or blood clots. There are also fewer risks associated with using local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia.
You should notice some improvement in how your legs feel right away. The visible veins start shrinking within a week or two, and full results take about three to six months.
Sometimes there are residual bulging branch veins that need additional treatment. I handle these with either regular sclerotherapy or Varithena foam sclerotherapy, depending on their size and location.
I focus on the big veins first. Once we shut down the faulty saphenous veins with endolaser therapy, many of those spider veins improve on their own because we’ve eliminated the pressure feeding them. Any remaining spider veins can be treated with sclerotherapy later.
If you are uncomfortable with the way your legs look or feel, it affects the way you live your life. A minimally-invasive treatment like endolaser vein therapy can help and get you back on your feet with little to no downtime.
